Infant Swimming – FAQ Answered
The advantages and proof of infant swimming are starting to become more apparent to parents around the world. In this article we will aim to discuss any common questions that will make you feel more comfortable in starting your child in an infant swimming program.
Should I use floatation devices?
In general, if you want to give your child proper baby swimming lessons then don’t try and use floatation devices. Floatation devices don’t help your baby learn how to swim properly. It makes your child rely on the flotation device and this can negatively impact the advancement they make in the pool. You can however use them later on when your child is older to help them practice in the water more.
Should we take a break during winter?
A lot of parents worry that if they take a break during the winter months that their children will forget everything they have learnt. This isn’t the truth. The only problem that could come to be from taking a break during the winter months is that your child’s abilities might become slightly rusty. If you can afford to pay for an indoor pool, then of course it is encouraged to continue your child’s classes there. If you can’t afford to pay for an indoor gym pool, then don’t worry about it. Just start the swimming lessons once summer is back.
Do all children love to swim?
Of course they don’t. No child is the same and you will have more problems with some children then others. There are children who absolutely love to be in the water and you simply can’t get them out. There are other children who are more cautious and absolutely dislike the water. You need to push through this instant dislike. Think of fun ways to distract your child by playing games or singing while in the water. If you’re struggling to get your child to get into the water then why not join a group class? Most kids love a positive atmosphere and if they see other children taking part, they will more likely want to take part as well.
These FAQs will answer most of your questions about infant swimming. Invest in infant swimming for your child’s betterment and future.
